Dredging

Three NPA dredgers (River Chalawa, Gmel and Sea Lion) are on charter to the company to be used exclusively by us for dredging Lagos port. Sealion and Gumel are TSHD’S used for the deepening of the Channels. R. Chalawa is used to maintain depths alongside th quays.

Survey

Our dedicated Survey Department has been essential for LCM’s operations. The department have two permanent survey vessels to carry out constant surveys of the port, allowing us to monitor dredging progress, and quay depths. Both essential in a modern port. The department are also responsible for all aspects of Aids to Navigation.

Wrecks Removal

LCM have completed the initial wreck removal program, with 24 critical wrecks removed by the end of 2011. All these wrecks were a hazard to navigation within Lagos, and their removal will allow us to forge forward with a new channel design to accommodate much larger vessels navigating within Lagos port.

Training Program

LCM Introduced Deck & Engineering Cadetships two years ago. From the original batch, 5 cadets have already passed their Certificate of Competence for 3rd class deck officer & engineer, and are now employed by LCM.

LCM also introduced mandatory training for all our ratings, and this ongoing.

Aids to Navigation

Lagos port buoyage system remains intact & efficient since inception. All buoys are re-furbished every 2 years, and any damage is repaired within 24hrs.

Pollution Monitoring


Our pollution control officers have already located & logged dumping hotspots. They have also begun a program to assess & monitor the amount of floating debris, based on U.S.

Enviromental protection agency methods, that are present in the waterways. The future results of this program should aid the relevant bodies in a clean up & prevention plan.
